Exfoliants remove the build-up of dead, damaged cells on the skin's surface, stimulate the regeneration of new cells, and improves the skin’s appearance, feel and texture. Dead skin cells block pores, and can result in a dull, flaky appearance.
There are 2 main types of exfoliation: Mechanical and Chemical. Mechanical exfoliants, such as scrub or microdermabrasion, physically remove the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Chemical exfoliants typically use AHA or BHA (alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids) to dissolve dead skin cells.
